Salak Yom – Wat Hariphunchai, Lamphun
Salak Yom ceremony at Wat Phra That Hariphunchai in Lamphun. This is an important annual ceremony for the Yong people, the ethnic minority of Lamphun.
The celebration centers around building bamboo structures, some nearly 20m-tall, using strips of the wood that are dyed and to which they tie offerings for monks. The building process can take a week or two to complete and is seen as a demonstration of handicraft skills for the Yong girls.

Chaeson National Park
Some 80 km to the east of Chiang Mai is the Chaeson National Park, at its centre is a geothermal complex where you can take baths (private or public) and the other favourite activity at such places – boiling eggs…
80 km may not seem far, but the most direct route takes you over mountain roads that can be dangerous, especially in the rainy season, the other route is rather circuitous and via Lampang – worth a weekend visit ‘tho.
