travel postcards, practical advice, images and snippets of randomness

On the east side of the Ping River there are quite a few bars and restaurants that feature live music most nights; all of these acts are good, some are incredible. The blues band in the Brasserie gets a special mention.

The most popular bar by far is The Riverside, this attracts The White Crowd… not Europeans or Americans, but Thais who are incredibly white. Being white is a big status thing here and many shops sell skin whitening products (all mainstream brands, like Nivea), most of this crowd seem quite wealthy too, and regularly polish off a bottle of scotch or vodka with a meal, it gets pretty rowdy, but never seems to be any trouble.
